A LOOK BEHIND THE SCENES

How plants become a Cola.

Insights through images and the stories of the people behind Cocayusa. We begin at the source with the growers of our plant based ingredients around the world and then continue the journey all the way to the final Cola production in Germany.

COCA LEAVES FROM COLOMBIA

Our origin does not begin in a lab and not in a factory. It begins where Coca has been growing for centuries. In the highlands of Colombia.

We work with Indigenous Nasa communities in the Cauca region. In the foothills of the Andes, between mist, rain and intense sun, Coca grows under conditions that cannot be copied. This is exactly where this plant belongs. Not in the hands of the empire and not in the hands of the cartels.

The cultivation is entirely in the hands of the Indigenous Nasa communities. No anonymous mass commodity, no industrial monoculture, no soulless scaling. Instead, small plots, real knowledge and families who have lived with this plant for generations.

The harvest follows the same principle. The leaves are harvested by hand, with respect for the plant and with a focus on resilience instead of quick yield. This keeps the Coca shrub strong and alive for years.

After the harvest, a strictly regulated process begins within the Indigenous territories. Only after decocainization is the extract released to us. In this process, the alkaloids that produce cocaine are specifically removed. What remains is an aromatic plant extract that preserves the character of Coca, but no longer has the intoxicating effect of cocaine.

That is exactly what matters to us. Real origin, clear rules and a supply chain you do not have to hide. You can understand it. For us, Coca is not just another raw material. Coca is a plant with history, cultural meaning and a depth that goes far beyond what the empire turned it into.

GUAYUSA LEAVES FROM ECUADOR

The origin of Guayusa does not begin in a factory and not in an industrial formula. It begins where the rainforest sets the rhythm. In Ecuador's Amazon region.

Our Guayusa leaves come from our long standing collaboration through the Matchachin project with Indigenous Kichwa communities. In regions such as Napo, Guayusa has been part of daily life for centuries. Not as a trendy plant, not as a marketing concept, but as a natural part of everyday life.

That is exactly what makes the difference. Guayusa does not grow in empty monocultures or on faceless plantations. It grows within the forest, alongside other plants, in the living chakra gardens of local families. These traditional forest gardens combine food crops, medicinal plants and useful plants in a system that does not work against nature, but with it.

The harvest follows the same philosophy. At dawn, as the forest slowly awakens, the leaves are picked by hand. The Guayusa tree is not destroyed in the process and can continue growing and being harvested for many years. This keeps Guayusa strong, vibrant and part of a natural cycle.

Gentle processing begins immediately after harvest. The leaves are withered and then carefully dried at low temperatures. Not as fast as possible, but as well as possible. This patience and care preserve the smooth, clean taste and the natural strength that make Guayusa so unique.

The empire thinks in speed, yield and standardization. We think in origin, quality and real plant power.

For us, Guayusa is far more than just a natural source of caffeine. Guayusa is part of a living system that has existed for generations and today provides a sustainable income within the rainforest.
