Cocayusa was not born from a market gap. It was born from a clear conviction: cola can be more than sugar and artificial flavourings.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

The roots of Cocayusa go back a long way. In 2006, the foundation was laid with the creation of the company Tausendkraut, now well known among connoisseurs. In 2016, we introduced Guayusa to Germany through the startup Matchachin. From 2026 onwards, we are freeing Coca from the Empire.

Everything we do revolves around plants. Plants that do not get their story, character and impact from a laboratory, but from tradition, origin and real experience. Over many years, this created not only knowledge about herbs, teas and exceptional raw materials, but also a clear view of a system that accepts industrial products more easily than real plants. One example is the Novel Food Regulation.

Coca brings depth. Cola nut brings structure. Guayusa brings natural alertness. Only together do they create a cola that does not feel like an industrial product, but like a genuine alternative. That is why Cocayusa is more than just a drink. It is a new idea of cola. Built more honestly, thought out more naturally and carrying a flavour that puts everything that came before into the shade.

MORE THAN A TREND

Cocayusa is not a quickly invented startup wrapped in good packaging. Behind the brand stand years of real work with natural foods. Our professional knowledge of how imperial food products are made and how their ingredients affect our bodies has always motivated us to do things differently. Added to that was the endless monotony. Whether at the cinema, a kiosk, a restaurant or a festival, everywhere there were only imperial drinks without soul or origin. Our desire for change eventually became so strong that we embraced a crazy idea: to change the drink of all drinks, cola itself. The time was ripe for a rebellion. And that is exactly why Cocayusa is not a passing trend. It is the result of a long journey. Perhaps that is why Cocayusa is the most authentic cola ever created.

A LONG JOURNEY

For us, it all began in 2006 with the founding of Tausendkraut. Twenty years later, Coca came to us, our greatest adventure so far. But the rebellion started much earlier, with the resistance of the Nasa people in Colombia, whose cultivation and use of their sacred Coca plant had long ago been forbidden by the Empire. Their resistance was so successful that in 2019 Colombia was forced to launch a pilot project allowing Nasa communities to legally cultivate and process Coca within their reservations. The project was successfully implemented, but since its creation it has faced strong opposition from both the United States and the cartels. As a result, the Nasa communities increasingly had to continue parts of the project underground. This circumstance meant that all our attempts to establish contact with the Nasa project remained unsuccessful for a very long time.

Thanks to the indigenous Kichwa people of Ecuador, the creators of Cocayusa were finally able to establish contact in Colombia. When we were finally able to present our idea of combining Coca with Guayusa and creating a true cola, strong distrust turned into friendship. THE FIRST STEPS

Another great adventure followed. Until then, only one player had managed to import a Coca extract into Europe: the Empire. Thanks to our many years of experience in dealing with the imperial system, the Cocayusa team succeeded in legally importing Coca extract into Europe and gaining approval to use it in food products. A message of gratitude goes out to all the rebels within the system who helped make this possible.

HOW DO YOU BUILD A COLA

For that, you need an architect. And we can proudly report: the No. 1 cola expert has defected! He still wants to remain unknown, so for now we call him "Dr. Cola". For Dr. Cola, working with us made a dream come true. After 40 years of international cola development for the industry, Dr. Cola was finally allowed to develop his final recipe, this time with the holy grail: the Coca leaf. An ingredient that had always been withheld from him until now. We will never forget how Dr. Cola drove straight to us from Switzerland after we proudly told him on the phone that we had just received 50 litres of Coca extract from Colombia by DHL. We suspect he could not believe it until he had seen and tasted it himself.

THE COCAYUSA RECIPE

The requirements were clear: a cola the way it once was. With Coca, with cola nut and plenty of flavour despite less sugar and without any flavourings. Our goal: everything had to be plant based, sustainable and high quality. Caffeine purely from Guayusa and cola nut, not from imperial laboratories. A conscious decision to avoid industrial ingredients such as phosphoric acid (E338) or caramel colour (E150d). Real cola taste, straight from nature, is the standard carved in stone for Cocayusa. For Dr. Cola, this was an exciting challenge, because it is exactly the opposite of what he had to do for the cola industry for 40 years. The result: a force of nature. The Rebellion starts here! BUILT WITH ATTITUDE

Cocayusa stands not only for taste, but also for origin. Guayusa from indigenous forest gardens in the Amazon. Coca from legal indigenous cooperatives. Cola nut from Africa, the historical origin of real cola. This connection is not a marketing trick, but the foundation of the brand. When you drink Cocayusa, you choose not only a special cola, but also an idea that takes plants, people and origin more seriously than the Empire does.

COCAYUSA KNOWLEDGE

An archaeological find from Bolivia, dated to around 500 AD, documents a shamanic grave with burial offerings. One of these offerings, a pouch filled with leaves, is something truly special to us. It contains a mixture of Coca and Guayusa leaves. The find proves the early trade networks between the Andes and the Amazon, which is already incredible. But for us, even more spectacular: the find provides clear evidence that Coca + Guayusa existed once before. Now rediscovered and given a name by us: Cocayusa.
